Elementary Biblical Hebrew II
Description
Elementary Biblical Hebrew begins at a standing start: with the alphabet. The goal toward which we’ll work at the far end of the second semester will be the ability to read, translate, and describe the various grammatical features in basic Hebrew narratives (e.g. Genesis, Jonah). There are no prerequisites save the willingness to work steadily and consistently over the course of two semesters.
While the course will certainly be useful as a review for those who have studied Hebrew in the past, it is particularly oriented to those who have not. And though it is first and always a grammar course, we will make observations along the way about the artfulness of the language and its aptness as a witness to God in the Old Testament. This is fitting, since the intent of the course is to build a linguistic foundation sufficient for you to move toward exegesis (interpretation of texts).
